As a founding member of the Abnormal Loads Group (ALG), the Heavy Transport Association remains committed to ensuring that the interests of our members are represented at the highest level in discussions with government, the police service, National Highways and other key stakeholders.
The HTA continues to play an instrumental role in steering the work of the ALG, providing technical expertise, practical industry knowledge and strategic leadership across a number of national workstreams. Our objective is straightforward: to secure greater consistency, clarity and proportionality in the regulation and movement of abnormal loads, while ensuring that the operational experience of our members directly informs national policy and guidance.
Following the recent NPCC Symposium, ALG has agreed several priority actions aimed at addressing issues repeatedly raised by operators and regulatory enforcement bodies across the industry. These initiatives reflect concerns that many HTA members have shared with us and demonstrate the value of constructive engagement between industry and enforcement partners.
The attached briefing outlines the agreed actions now being progressed by the ALG. The HTA will continue to actively lead and support these initiatives, representing members throughout their development and ensuring that practical, evidence-based solutions remain at the forefront of discussions.
Your experiences and feedback remain vital. Where differing local practices or operational challenges are encountered, we encourage members to share these with the HTA so that we can continue to build the evidence base, influence national policy and work collaboratively towards greater consistency across the UK.
Thank you for your continued support of the HTA and the important contribution you make to strengthening the abnormal loads industry.
